Srinagar, Jan 26 (KNO): Syed Aadil Hussian Shah from Hapatnard in South Kashmir's Anantnag district has been honoured for supreme bravery after sacrificing his life to shield tourists during the April 2025 Pahalgam terror attack.
As per the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), Aadil was killed on April 22 last year while attempting to fight terrorists to protect tourists in Baisaran area of Pahalgam .
He was the primary earner of his family which included his parents, brothers, wife and child.
After his killing, Waqf board J&K provided a job to his brother while LG provided a permanent government position, Class IV (MTS) in the fisheries department to his wife Gulnaz Akhter.
Now, he has been posthumously awarded by the Jammu and Kashmir government on the occasion of Republic day 2026 in the bravery category and he received a cash prize of Rs 1 lakh and a citation in recognition of his courage.
His family memberd have expressed deep gratitude to the government for the support extended to them, saying they were proud of his courage and sacrifice.
"Whatever was written by Almighty Allah has happened but he died while saving others. We feel proud of our son as he died while saving innocents." They said.
The April 22 terrorist attack in Pahalgam sent shockwaves across Jammu and Kashmir. Gunmen opened fire on a group of tourists and locals, killing 26 people and injuring several others. Among those killed was Syed Aadil Hussain, who tried to snatch the rifle of terrorists during the chaos.
The tourist sector in J&K suffered a major blow due to the attack which is low returning to normal slowly—(KNO)
